The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University Lokoja (FUL), Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, has been inducted as a Fellow of the Association of Philosophy Professionals of Nigeria (FAPPON) in recognition of his contributions to the academic and philosophical landscape in Nigeria. Professor Akinwumi was conferred with the Fellowship at an investiture ceremony organized by the Association on 4th October 2024 at the Federal University of Lafia, Nasarawa State. The remarkable event was organized to honour distinguished scholars, representatives of various academic institutions, members of the APPON, and other eminent Nigerians.

During the ceremony, the educational and research organisation acknowledged the Vice-Chancellor’s exemplarly leadership and giant strides in academia. The APPON  National President, Alloy S. Ihuah, PhD; MNAL, KofC, in his welcome address, lauded Professor Akinwumi’s longstanding commitment to promoting higher education, fostering philosophical inquiry, and his role in enhancing the quality of academic programs in Nigeria.

Speaking further, APPON President highlighted the essence of recognizing outstanding contributions to the field of philosophy. He underscored the importance of honouring individuals who have demonstrated admirable leadership and scholarship, and reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to promoting philosophical studies and supporting academic leaders like Professor Akinwumi.

In his acceptance speech, the Vice-Chancellor, ably represented by Professor Abubakar Muhammed, expressed profound gratitude for being conferred as a Fellow of the prestigious Association. In the speech, he emphasized his commitment to academic excellence and the importance of philosophy in shaping critical thinking and ethical leadership. Professor Akinwumi’s acceptance speech cheered the audience who listened with rapt attention as they were astonished by his visionary leadership and dedication to higher education in Nigeria.

Following his speech, Professor Akinwumi was presented with the Fellowship certificate and regalia - a significant moment that symbolized the recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field of philosophy and higher education in Nigeria. Again, the VC, who is also a Fellow of both the Nigerian Academy of Letters (FNAL) and the Historical Society of Nigeria (FHSN), expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the Association for the recognition, and pledged his continued support for initiatives that promote academic growth and philosophical inquiry.

The epoch-making event, which drew the presence of notable individuals, provided a knowledge-sharing platform for interaction where participants discussed contemporary issues in philosophy and education, just as the Vice-Chancellor harped on the need for interdisciplinary collaboration to address societal challenges, with the attendees expressing their appreciation of Professor Akinwunmi's impactful work. The investiture ceremony was not only memorable but also inspiring as it showcased the value of philosophy in academic and societal progress.

The Vice-Chancellor's investiture as a Fellow of APPON is a testament to his exceptional leadership and contributions to higher education. It also reinforces the Federal University of Lafia's commitment to academic excellence and engagement with professional associations. The next General Meeting/Conference of the Association will be hosted at the Federal University Lokoja in 2025.
